Questions to Ask Your Wedding Vendors

Elopements have fewer vendors than big weddings — which means each one matters more. Before you book anyone, get these answers in writing (an email counts).

For every vendor

What's included in the price, exactly — and what costs extra?
How far in advance do we need to book, and what's your cancellation or rescheduling policy?
How do we reach you on the wedding day if something changes?
Can we see recent, full work — not just highlights? (For photographers: a full gallery from one wedding day.)

Photographer

How much shooting time is included, and what happens if we run over?
How many photos do we typically receive, and will we get printing rights?
Are you comfortable shooting in a public park — crowds, changing light, no second chances?
Who owns the photos, and can we share them freely?

Florist

What's in season on our date, and what will you substitute if something isn't available?
When and where do you deliver — and who do we call if you're running late?
Can you do a bouquet and boutonniere that survive a few hours outdoors?

Hair & makeup

Do you come to us (hotel, home), and is there a travel fee?
Do you do a trial run? What does it cost?
How long does it take, and how should we plan the morning around it?

Music

Acoustic only in the park — are you set up for that? (A violinist or guitarist is the classic Central Park choice.)
How long do you play, and do you take requests for the ceremony pieces?

Restaurant / dinner after

Do you do private or semi-private rooms for small parties?
Can you handle a cake and a champagne toast?
What's the minimum spend or per-person cost for our group size?

One last tip: the cheapest quote is rarely the best value for a wedding. You're buying reliability on a day with no do-overs — reviews from real couples matter more than a slick website.
